Designed by Allied Works in collaboration with Unknown Studio Landscape Architecture & Urban Design, the Museum's campus transformation project represents a new beginning for VBMA, expanding its capacity to welcome visitors and advancing the growth of its collections, exhibition program, and educational offerings. Its design comprises a series of walled gardens, terraces, and courtyards for art viewing and making, interweaving art and nature and blurring the line between the Museum and Riverside Park.
This exhibition traces the evolution of the project’s design, illustrating its key ideas with architectural models, early concept sketches, drawings, renderings, and other visual representations of the creative process. It will also explore the design as being inspired by and deeply rooted in Vero Beach. The new 90,000-square-foot building embraces the beauty and subtropical climate of its unique barrier island setting, featuring terraced landscaping that elevates the Museum within the park. Enhancingits sustainability and resiliency, the earthen concrete structure is cast from native materials with its surface revealed to reflect the hues and tones of the region.
“The exhibition chronicles the imaginative and profound design journey that leads VBMA to our next chapter,” shares VBMA Executive Director Brady Roberts. “It is a ‘must-see’ for lovers of art and architecture.”
